Peace & Education Coalition of Back of the Yards Annual Scholarship Committee
(05/09/2013) A Back of the Yards native, Attorney Hugo Ortiz served on the annual scholarship committee of the Peace & Education Coalition of Back of the Yards. "The mission of the Peace and Education Coalition (PEC) is to foster relationships between local community stakeholders. The Coalition members work to create a united vision to help neighborhood children, especially those trapped in a cycle of poverty and violence. Latino Professionals Career Panel
(04/11/2013) -- Attorney Hugo Ortiz participated in the Latino Professionals Career Panel, hosted by Latino QUEST of Evanston Township High School. During this event, local high school students heard the personal stories of Latino professionals, from their experiences in high school to choosing a career. Mr. Ortiz spoke primarily about the difficulties he encountered as a Latino male growing up in a humble Chicago neighborhood, and the challenging but even more rewarding road to establishing his own law firm.
"Latino QUEST strives to provide an environment where students can meet, feel comfortable, and express their concerns. It offers events for ETHS students, provides a voice for the ETHS Latino student body, and attempts to build awareness of issues facing Latino students' academic success.
